St. John Vianney seeks funds for expansion

Story PictureSince St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Primary School was established in 1987, the enrolment has grown to the point where there is just not enough space to hold its six hundred and fifty students. Today the principal, staff, boys and girls launched a fundraising drive that hopefully will bring in the money needed to construct a new classroom building. Today News Five’s Jacqueline Woods caught up with principal Anita Wade who said that although it’s an ambitious effort, they remain confident in the commitment of the community.

Anita Wade, Principal, St. John Vianney
“St. John Vianney is so crowded we do not know where to go. Every year we try to add, use every other space we have, but this year now our back against the wall, we have nowhere else to go. There has to be rooms built. We are going up to three standard three, we have only two standard four rooms, small rooms also, we have used up our parish hall this year, so we have nowhere to go but build new classrooms.”

“Now you are looking to raise six hundred thousand dollars, are you optimistic that you will reach your target?”

Anita Wade
“Very optimistic. It’s a very ambitious project, especially here in Port Loyola among my people in Port Loyola, this is where there is no money deh indeed. But this morning I wanted to make them aware that to work with the school and the community and that we must do our share, we are looking for help outside also, but I want our community to know that we must do our share and I am very optimistic.”

If you would like to assist in the cause you can make financial contributions to Belize Bank Account number 20035162 or Atlantic Bank account number 100068618. To contribute construction materials, get in touch with the school’s principal at telephone number 227-4844.
