Mexican Sculptor Orlando Montalvo Exhibits Works In Belize
The Mexican Embassy through the Institute of Mexico in Belize City has an annual cultural exchange program that showcases the cultural heritage as well as the creative art of Belizean and Mexican artists. Tonight, the works of wood carver, Orlando Canto Montalvo from Chetumal, will be on display at the opening of an exhibit entitled Nature. Press Officer for the Mexican Embassy, Marcelino Miranda, spoke to News Five prior to the launch.

“He has presented his work in many places in Mexico and for the first time he is presenting his work in Belize. This is a wonderful exhibition. I love it and I particularly invite the public to have a look at this exhibition. For us at the embassy, I think that this exhibition is good for young people, for children, to have a look not only at the techniques that the artist is presenting, but also at the subject that he is proposing. This is part of the cultural program of the Embassy of Mexico for 2014 and I would like to invite everybody. The entrance to this exhibition is free and is opened to the general public.”

“I understand the work of Mister Montalvo have been widely displayed across Mexico. Can you speak to us about that?”

“Yes, he has presented his work in Mexico City at two different venues and also he has presented his work at the Museum of the Mayan Culture in Chetumal. He has a long career in wood carving and his works are remarkable. The people are going to have a chance to enjoy his works; they are very good and along the years, he has been treating different subjects. In this case, he is presenting different views about nature, the environment and also about the human body and human nature. It is a very good opportunity for those parents who want to inspire their children to develop their artistic skills or to enjoy art to come to this exhibition.”
If you were not able to make tonight’s launch, the exhibition will remain open to the public until December fifth.
