Father and Son to Stand Trial for Attempted Murder

Joseph Vacarro Sr.

A father along with his teenage son and two other Belize City men will stand trial at the January 2015 session of the Supreme Court for Attempted Murder and Dangerous Harm. The group is accused of attempting to take the life of Christian Martinez on January sixteenth, 2014. Ten months ago in Belize City, police initially charged fifty-four year old Joseph Vacarro Senior, thirty-four year old Rupert Garnett and thirty three year old Kenrick Crawford for Attempted Murder and Dangerous Harm.  And in September, Joseph Vaccaro Junior was charged with the same offenses.   This morning, at the end of a preliminary inquiry, they were committed to stand trial in the Supreme Court. The paper committal occurred before Senior Magistrate, Sharon Fraser; Garnett was the only one with legal representation by attorney, Yohhanseh Cave.  Cave indicated to the court that Garnett is not challenging any of the evidence in the disclosure so he had no problem with the matter being sent to the Supreme Court for trial.

Vacarro Senior also did not challenge any of the police statements, but Garnett and Vacarro Junior submitted that in the disclosure there is no evidence implicating them. Vacarro Junior also said that his name was called because of malice.  He told the Senior Magistrate that he was charged because of a woman who is having a divorce issue with his father and there is a dispute over a house. He was told by the senior magistrate that he will have to put up a defense at the Supreme Court trial.  All were offered bail in the sum of ten thousand dollars, but only Vacarro Junior was unable to post bail since he is on remand for the murder of Victor Vargas. That homicide occurred in the Cayo district in August of this year.
