Weekend Sports With James Adderley

Good evening I’m, James Adderley and this is Sports Monday. The action remains fast and furious inside the PLB completion and we’ve got proof. So let’s head to the Peoples Stadium for Saturday night standoff between Placencia Texmar Assassins against the mighty BDF. In the early going it’s Dellon Torres with the left foot swing to give Texmar the opening goal only to see the ball travel wide of goal. Its Dellon Torres again with the chance to move the scoreboard only this time he does not get enough of the ball to beat B.D.F.’s Tevin Gamboa and at the half we’ve got a scoreless ballgame. In the 2nd half Dellon Torres decides to turn provider so he picks out Louis Torres on the left side and the floater over Gamboa gives Placencia Texmar Assassins the 1 – zip lead at the 71st minute. The B.D.F. looks to respond when Carlton Thomas deals to Elroy Rawley but the credit goes to goalkeeper Jesus Urbina for his timely intervention. In this oppress Thomas again links up with Rawley and again Urbina’s defensive effort pays off. This might have been the B.D.F.’S best opportunity to equalize but they come up empty. Placencia Texmar Assassins come away with the merited 1 – zip victory to pick up all 3 points. In other action around the league on Saturday night Belmopan Bandits scorched Verdes FC in a 3- 2 blast, while on Sunday Paradise Freedom Fighters got its 1st season win with a 2 – 1 victory over FC Belize while Wagiya doubled San Ignacio in a 4 – 2 finish. Placencia Texmar now leads the league with 10 points from 3 wins and a draw, B.D.F. also shows 10 points but from 3 wins, 1 loss and a draw, Verdes has 10 points from that same record, Belmopan Bandits and Wagiya to show 7 points, Police 6, FC Belize 3 points, Paradise Freedom Fighters also show 3 points and san Ignacio remains in the cellar with no point. Looking to week 6 on Saturday 22nd Police faces Paradise Freedom Fighters inside the Isidoro Beaton, while 3 matches are set for Sunday at 3:30 PM Placencia Texmar will host Belmopan Bandits, san Ignacio United will be at home against FC Belize and Wagiya FC will make a stand inside the Carl Ramos against the Belize Defense Force.

Turning to the Women President Cup, the 2 game championship series for the 2014 title kicked off at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium. Saturday as Triple B’s took DFC Gentle Touch. Well some 5 minutes when Triple B’s Mexican striker Yamili Herrera hammers this set piece through a poorly constructed defensive wall to give her team the 1 – zip lead. Some 10 minutes later Shannel Gebtle launches this corner kick into the box Zandra Wittakers defensive header finds Cynthia Salazar who nods it in for the 1 – 1 tie. This pumps up the Esperanza Team – Kimberly Perez makes this force into the danger zone and her shot under pressure is denied by the goalkeeper’s best friend – the horizontal bar. At the other end Gentle Touch dodges a bullet when Gizel Baiza fires this low rise missile thanks to goalkeeper Myreie Drysdale. Yamili Herrera gets another chance to give Triple B on this set piece launch which travels too close to Miss Drysdale. 1- 1 score would hold up through regulation play, so game 2 moves to the Norman Broaster Stadium this weekend. Two enter one leave with the 2014 Women’s President Cup title.

Turning to the National Primary School Volleyball Championship staged at Birds Isle and Quan’s Gym in Belize City. Holy Angels of Stann Creek got past Belize Elementary 25 – 21, 25- 18 to claim the female title as Kiara Quinomez walked away female MVP Honor. In the male side Church of Christ Primary School of Corozal rolled over Louisiana Government School of Orange walk 25 – 19, 25 – 20 giving Keith Nugent the male MVP award we say good show. Now here is Friday’s result from play in the Central Division of the Secondary School Basketball tournament. Ladyville Technical High defaulted to Pallotti High School in female play. While on the male side Wesley College beat Nazarene High 60 to 50 and EP Yorke got over Ladyville Technical High 75 to 67.
