Two pedestrians dead in traffic accidents
Two pedestrians are dead as the result of separate traffic accidents and in each case drivers have been criminally charged. On Friday afternoon thirty-six year old Samuel Yarde Junior, an employee of S.E.L., was working in the area of Amara Avenue and Dean Street when he was hit by a pickup truck. That truck had first been struck and sent out of control by a Toyota Corolla which ran a stop sign. Yarde succumbed to his injuries around eight Friday night. Today, the driver of the Toyota, twenty-five year old Fiona Gillett, was charged with manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, driving without due care and attention, and failure to follow a traffic sign. She was released on five thousand dollars bail.
Meanwhile in the Orange Walk District on Friday night, fifteen year old Alejandro Chan of San Antonio was killed by a hit and run driver. The Muffles College student was walking on the road to Orange Walk Town with his cousin when a pickup truck hit Chan from behind and sped off. The damaged vehicle was later located by police and the driver, forty-six year old Jose Ack, still drunk, refused to submit to a blood test for alcohol. He has since been charged with the usual trio of manslaughter related crimes plus failure to report a traffic accident, render aid, and provide a blood specimen.
