Belizean students make it to Dallas after 40 hours
Hurricane Rita continues to barrel its way towards Texas tonight and although the storm has weakened in the last twenty-four hours, its impact on the U.S. Gulf Coast is expected to have disastrous consequences. This morning rising sea levels crushed levees in New Orleans, inundating parts of the devastated city once more. Rita is expected to make landfall early Saturday morning and there is still concern that residents running away from the impact zone will be caught on the road. The two Belizean students we spoke with on Thursday, Toni Michelle Chanona and Priscilla Pollard, arrived safely at their destination in Dallas around noon today. The normally six-hour drive from Houston to Dallas had taken the pair almost forty hours.
