Cop Out on Bail

Rupert Thomas

Two men, including a cop, who are facing criminal offenses, are out on bail tonight.  First, there is PC Rupert Thomas, who is attached to the Independence Police Formation in the Stann Creek District, and was accused on November fourteenth, of having sex with a fourteen-year old girl. He is facing a charge of carnal knowledge.  Today, he appeared before Justice Antoinette Moore in the Belize City Supreme Court where he was offered bail in the sum of seven thousand dollars.  While there was no objection to bail, the D.P.P.’s crown prosecutor, Kileru Awich, told the court that he was concerned that Thomas may interfere with the victim. Justice Moore ordered Thomas not to interfere with any of the prosecution witnesses, the victim, her family and friends in any way including Facebook or text messages. The second person to be granted bail is Maurice Felix.

Felix, along with two cousins were remanded on September twenty-sixth, 2014 for a gang related offense for Professing to be a Member of a Gang…that being the Gill Street gang.  Felix was granted Supreme Court bail in the sum of three thousand dollars, but he must report to the police station and attend all his court dates until his case concludes.  By midday, Felix met bail and was released. Recently, he beat a murder charge along with his brother, Emory Felix.
