Passengers Escape Near Fatal Collision on Phillip Goldson Highway

Four persons, including two tourists are lucky to be alive following an accident on Saturday evening between miles six and seven on the Phillip Goldson Highway. A Jeep Cherokee taxi traveling from Belize City towards Ladyville reportedly lost control and collided into a Ford Escape SUV coming from the opposite direction. Both drivers received various injuries as well as two foreign nationals, who were traveling in the taxi at the time of the accident. All four were taken to the K.H.M.H. where they were treated and released. Today, Rural Executive Officer, Inspector Frederick Gordon, spoke with the media on incident, which is believed to have been caused due to the rains along the stretch of road.

“On Saturday, sometime after five-thirty p.m. thereabouts, we received an accident between miles six involving two vehicles—a ford escort and Jeep Cherokee—and I understand that yes, two tourists received minor injuries in respect of the accident.”

“What information do you guys have so far as to what really led to that accident?”

“Well according to our preliminary investigation in this matter, it revealed that the Cherokee Jeep was traveling from Ladyville going towards Belize City and reaching between miles six and seven, it collided with a Ford Escort which was traveling in the opposite direction. The preliminary investigation reveal that the Cherokee lost control of the vehicle and as a result collided with the black jeep that was taking the tourists.”

“Any ideas as to what may have caused it? Was it mechanical problems?”

“Well it appears from our investigation that it was the condition of the road and apparently the driver lost control of the vehicle.”

“Condition in the sense that it was raining heavily?”

Inspector Frederick Gordon

“Yes, condition in that it was raining. I wouldn’t say heavily, but it was raining Saturday afternoon. Well the driver appeared to get just really minor injury and the tourists; the female complained of severe pain to the neck and the other guy complained of pain to the chest…the male that was inside the vehicle, the tourist.”
