75-year-old fisherman fights off three thieves
Five men who tried to rob a seventy-five year old fisherman were remanded to Hattieville Prison today pending charges of wounding, attempted robbery, abetment to commit robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery. According to court reports, around nine on Monday night, Enrique Alamina was standing in front of the People’s Restaurant on North Front Street in Belize City when three men walked up to him. One had a gun and pointed it at Alamina. Acting quickly, Alamina hit the weapon away from him and it discharged. A struggle ensued in the street with one of the attackers striking Alamina in the head. But when the commotion attracted attention, the assailants jumped into a waiting vehicle and sped off. Nothing was stolen from Alamina during the incident. Subsequent police investigations have resulted in the arrest of seventeen year old Tyrone Young, nineteen year old Dillon Bennett, twenty-three year old Edwin Flowers, eighteen year old Sherwin Locke, and a fifteen year old minor. All five have been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery. The minor has been charged with attempted robbery and wounding, while Flowers is accused of attempted robbery and abetment to commit robbery. Sherwin Locke was separately charged with wounding. The men will reappear before Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord on October twenty-first.
