Bodybuilders Flaunt Medals from Regional Championship
On Monday, we reported that a delegation of Belizean bodybuilders won big at the Central American Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships, a regional competition held in El Salvador. The three athletes who competed in various categories won a total of five trophies, with bodybuilder Oyinkro Akpobodor edging out six countries to emerge victorious in his class. This morning, the Belize Body Building and Fitness Federation held a brief press conference to present the trophies and medals.
Stanley Moody, President, BBBFF
“In this competition there were actually thirty-four categories. It was a huge competition and it entailed all of Central America but our athletes, all three athletes, entered into five categories. You had Mr. Rigo Vellos who entered the eighty-five plus kilograms, which was the heavyweight division and he placed second. We had Mr. Oyinkro Akpodobor, better known as the African, right, big guy, he entered the Juvenil which was under twenty-three-years of age and he placed first and he also entered in the over eighty-five kilograms, same category as Mr. Vellos and he placed third which itself is a great accomplishment, especially as a first-timer in that category. Then you had Mr. Clayton Grinage, he entered the masters division which is forty years and over, he placed second and he also entered the eighty kilo category in which placed third. But all three of our athletes came back with medals and we are very proud of them.”
