Will Mayor Bradley Run Again in 2015 Municipals?

Darrell Bradley

So where does this go from here? The Mayor has put his foot down, and so has the Prime Minister. Who will win that cock-fight is a no-brainer, but the Mayor does have the option of just resigning on principle. In the past weeks there have been reliable reports that the Mayor has considered backing out of the race before municipal elections scheduled for March 2015. It’s hard to imagine that, but stranger things have happened in politics. We asked him point-blank this morning if he will run as Mayor for another term, and while he didn’t quite say, he said a whole lot. Perhaps more than he was supposed to, because you’ll notice PR Manager, Kenny Morgan, trying his best to wrest the Mayor away from the media.

“That you jump ina wah area weh we noh want jump. Yo ask mi wah certain question and I responded to you quite truthfully that the difficulty. But see you jump ina wah area weh I noh deh.”

“Sir, your boxes have been packed; you’ve left the building.”

“Jules the position is that people have elected me to the office to solve problems. When, I mean people have asked questions…mayor you seem frustrated, mayor this, mayor that…. This is something that just had happened. I’ve had conversations with you privately and public in terms of some of the challenges that I face as mayor. I knew that this was going to be a difficult job and people elect you not to be popular or not to do things in a popularist way, but to make an impact. There are difficult questions that we have to face, but that is what leadership is about. It is about facing difficult questions in a mature way. And if there comes times where when I am saying to myself that this thing can’t work in terms of how the operation is, then I know what I have to do. But people elect me for a three year term to solve difficult problems and that is what I intend to do for the full term in office when I have been mayor. We’ve had a lot of discussions on this. I have mentioned it on the media, I have mentioned it to my councils; we’ve had council meetings that have been very, very intense, we’ve had council meetings that last five hours just on this one topic in terms of looking at the numbers, seeing how this thing is working. And that is what people elect you for; you are there to deal with tough questions and you don’t skirt from your responsibility.”

“Sir, but you are no longer there. You’ve left the office; everybody knows.”

“Jules, I don’t know about that. I was at the office this morning and I had meetings at my office. I don’t know where you get that from.”

We’ll have more with the mayor later in the newscast.
