Byron Lee is back for Independence concert
The group was not the first band of Caribbean musicians to be enjoyed in Belize, but over the years the name of Byron Lee and the Dragonaires has become synonymous with visiting entertainers from the islands. And tonight the crowd that defined the term “jump up” will once again have Belizeans moving.

It has been three years since Byron Lee and the Dragonaires has made an appearance in Belize. Today they are back… as wild and energetic as ever.
This morning we caught up with the lead band members who were really getting in the festive mood at Jambel’s Jerk Pit on King Street. The musicians say Belizeans should go fully prepared to be on their feet at tonight’s show.

“When you come to Byron Lee and the Dragonaires, that’s what you get, entertainment. There is no sitting down and thinking that you could sit down all night. You could dance with your sweetheart, make a little love, kiss her, independence coming in; you know what I’m saying. So we have a lot in store, and on top of that we are proud to say that we cannot come to Belize and perform and not have some local bands in the whole mix.”
Cindy Lewis
“Whether you’re sixteen or sixty, just find yourselves there. Dress comfortably, relax, and come with the intentions of sweating and having a great time.”
Belizeans are being advised not to leave home without the usual items that make any Byron Lee Show a good workout.

“Make sure to walk with yuh rags, walk with yuh flags. Because you can’t come to Byron Lee show and you don’t have a flag. Make sure you have your Belizean flag and also a white flag, which means love and unity. And that’s what we have, a lot of energy, a lot of vibes, a lot of excitement. So basically that’s it.”

“We know what it is like, the City Centre is always very hot already and then with a Byron Lee show, more energy and heat coming out from that bandstand. I mean, we’ve gonna be burning up.”

Tonight’s entertainment at the Belize City Centre gets underway from nine with the Byron coming on stage around eleven. Tickets are fifty dollars at the door. Meanwhile “Dance Party”, the band’s latest release, will also be on sale at the show.
