Landlord jailed for aiming shotgun at tenants

The next case on the News Five court docket didn’t involve weed, but it does include cigarette smoke, noise and a landlord who tried to evict his tenants using a shotgun. Sixty-seven year old Jesus Aldana rents out part of his home on T Street in Belize City, but on Monday he told the court that after enduring weeks of unruly behaviour at all hours from tenants Jacinta Rodriguez and Luciano Hernandez, he decided to serve them notice, at six-forty in the morning. Apparently, the pair informed Aldana that they would need some time to find a new home and pretty soon an argument ensued. The shouting match came to end when Aldana pulled out his sixteen-gauge, loaded it, and pointed it at the couple. The police got involved and now Aldana finds himself locked up behind bars, charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm. We understand the landlord asked for leniency because he suffers from various health problems, but for the next ninety days he will enjoy the comforts of the remand section of Hattieville Prison. Aldana can apply to the Supreme Court to have that time reduced, at which point he might be offered bail.
