100 Pounds of Marijuana Seized by Garden City Cops
Tonight, the Belmopan Police are reporting the seizure of a sizable amount of marijuana, confiscated during a special patrol just after midnight. Three persons – Jennie Silva and Yolanda Patt from Benque Viejo, and Casey Fitzgerald Smith from Belize City, were in a vehicle which Police stopped and searched. It is believed that they were bringing in marijuana from Guatemala for sale in Belize, something which happens much more frequently now since millions of dollars worth of the coveted product has been destroyed in military operations.
Supt. Howell Gillett, Officer Commanding, Belmopan
“One of our specialist units from the Belmopan Police Station was on a strategic patrol on the George Price Highway when it encountered a taxi with Benque Viejo license plates in the Frank’s Eddy area. The motor vehicle was searched, and it was revealed to contain ninety-four point five pounds of cannabis. Also found in the vehicle was a nine millimetre Ruger brand pistol with eight live rounds of nine millimetre shells.”
This morning all three persons found in the vehicle were charged jointly for drug trafficking and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. They were remanded to the Belize Central Prison.
