Another Late-Evening Shooting in Mahogany Heights
Joel Seawell and four other persons were ambushed on Wednesday evening in the Mahogany Heights area on the George Price Highway. Members of the group, including a woman, were headed home through a picado road, when they came under fire. Seawell was the only one to be hit by the barrage of shots fired at the group. He was rushed to the Western Regional Hospital and then transported to the K.H.M.H. where he is in a stable condition. Police soon after detained a twenty-six year old resident, also of Mahogany Heights. Duane Moody reports from Tiger Alley in Mahogany Heights where the shooting took place.

“This path that I’m currently on is referred to as Tiger’s Alley in the Mahogany Heights Community between miles twenty-nine and thirty on the George Price Highway. This was the scene of a shooting on Wednesday night. Joel Seawell and four other persons, including a female, was heading home when they were ambushed by a lone gunman. They all ran for their lives as the gunman opened fire on them. Seawell was shot twice—once to the face and to the back—but he nevertheless ran towards the highway to Tiger Sandy Bar Farms Limited for assistance.”

“He lived at his own house weh he rent and he come dah my house yesterday morning and tell me auntie I gwen go buy some few things. I say yo gwen go pick up yo lee pay; ih say ih think so. But it so happen that when ih reach up wah another amount of people mi di walk through the shortcut by Sandy Bay area deh dah mahogany heights and it look like somebody chase di people dehn and di fire gunshot want dehn stop fi make dehn rob them and ih look like he mi deh dah back with ih earpiece pan ih ears and he get the shot up…dehn shot up him.”
The twenty-two year old was rushed to the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan before he was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City, where he is in a stable condition.

According to his aunt, Elizabeth Archer, Seawell had just moved to the area about two weeks ago and was the target of a robbery.

A twenty-six-year-old resident, also of Mahogany Heights Village, has been detained pending investigation. Duane Moody for News Five.
