Bodybuilding competitions this weekend

Story PictureTonight at the Princess Hotel there will be more flexing than the Cuban dancers can handle and more moves than can fit in the Charisma nightclub. No, we haven’t been invaded by Michael Jackson impersonators…the King’s room is the venue of the annual Mr. Belize competition and the Miss Body Fitness. According to organisers, fifteen men and sixteen women will take to the stage to raise money to send representatives to the Central American Games and the Pan American Championships later this year. This afternoon, the Belize Bodybuilding Association’s Alfred McKenzie explains that in addition to local fame, the winners will also be featured in the International Body Builder’s ?Flex Magazine?.

Alfred McKenzie, Vice President, Public Relations
“Winning Mr. Belize is a very prestigious event and we normally send the winners to compete in Central America and it gives you a sense of pride and what you call self-esteem. And for the females, it is the second year in a row that we are sponsoring a female competition and likewise they will compete in regional competitions.”

“They will be featured in the magazine for the first time they featured Courts Belize Mr. Belize Championships and they will be featured again because of my close working relationship with the President Mr. Ben Weider and the I.B.B., we are affiliated with the I.B.B. for some time now and also whenever we send up our reports, they feature it for us.”

Sponsors for the bodybuilding event include Courts Belize, Belize Bank, Atlantic Bank, Sagicor Insurance, and Alliance Bank. Tickets are fifteen dollars reserve and ten general. Children under fourteen are free. Showtime is at eight tonight.
