P.U.P. Says They Are Ready for Municipal Elections

Henry Charles Usher

Will Belize City Mayor Darrell Bradley be a part of the U.D.P. team when municipal elections roll around in March? That’s the question everybody’s asking, including the U.D.P.  The P.U.P. says they’re not thinking about that right now, because they’re working to win the by-election in Cayo North. And when the campaign for municipals does get started, P.U.P. Chairman Henry Charles Usher says that the Party will be ready.

“We have all our slates in place countrywide. We will be swearing in the Belize City municipal slate on Wednesday. So that is the last slate to be sworn in, and after that it is a full out campaign. Of course here in Cayo North we kind of got diverted by this by-election, but certainly they are running in parallel, both the campaigns here in Cayo North and the campaigns country-wide in the municipal.”

“How is it looking in Belize City? I know that the Mayor himself has had some challenges. There’s been some infighting between him and the Prime Minister.”

“Yeah well I don’t get too involved in what is happening on their side. But you are right. The Mayor can’t seem to decide if he is going to run or if he doesn’t want to run, clearing out his office and all of that. On our side we have a good Mayoral candidate, Ms. Yolanda Schakron. We have a good team, a well rounded team. They come from all parts of Belize City and all parts of industry – teachers and workers and entrepreneurs. It looks good. It looks good, Mike. I am confident that we will put up a good challenge come March and that we will win.”
