Chief Justice sends Brown case back to Magistrate’s Court
The trial of Andrew “Papa” Brown continued today, but the venue shifted from the Magistrate to the Supreme Court. Solicitor General Elson Kaseke had asked the Chief Justice to rule on Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord’s exclusion of certain evidence presented by a United States D.E.A. A move that Kaseke claims violated the “constitutional rights” of the United States government. Today however, Chief Justice Abdulai Conteh ruled that considering the Chief Magistrate’s rejection of evidence before the trial is concluded would “not be in keeping with the integrity of the political process.” He said the issue should wait for a full appeal after the matter has been completely heard. The case is now scheduled to go back before Magistrate Lord on Monday. When Lead Defence Attorney Dean Barrow was asked if he will seek bail once more for the Browns, he replied that there was no need since he expects the case to end on Monday.
