“Bunja” charged for assaulting sleeping victim
A man who has been convicted of sexually abusing a teen was fined rather than given a prison sentence. Twenty-six year old David “Bunja” Lambey has to pay three thousand four hundred and fifteen dollars after he was found guilty of Aggravated Assault of an Indecent Nature and Burglary upon a nineteen year old Belize City cashier. On May seventh 2008, the nineteen year-old victim told police that at about two thirty that afternoon she was at home in the company of a female and the accused. Both persons left, but Lambey later returned and broke into the victim’s home and touched her inappropriately her while she slept. In the courtroom of Chief Magistrate Margaret, Lambey gave an unsworn statement in which said that he went back to the house looking for the woman’s female friend and ended up in the woman’s room however he had no intention of interfering with the woman. His attorney, Lionel Welch begged the court for leniency since his client had no previous convictions for the same crime. Lambey has until September thirtieth of this year to pay the fine. If he defaults, he will have to spend a year in jail for aggravated assault, two years for burglary and four months for harm.
