Xchange Movement kick starts on Saturday

Story PictureOccasionally the media gets lucky enough to squeeze two stories out of one airport parking fee… and today was one of those days. Jacqueline Woods picks up the story from the V.I.P. Lounge.

Lord Laro was not the only one being welcomed at the P.G.I.A. this afternoon, another Trinidadian artist, Machel Montano, also had a big welcome to Belize. Montano is here to unite the younger population for a good cause…the launch of the Xchange Movement.

Marleni Cuellar, Xchanger
“Machel is actually one of the people who helped to conceive the idea of the Xchange Movement. He has been part of the different launches in about five different Caribbean countries and is now here in Belize celebrating with us the launch of this non-violent movement, so we are pretty excited about that.”

Herbert Wiltshire, Xchanger
“The Xchange Movement is what I would call the best thing in Belize right now because the Xchange Movement is just a movement of positivity, young people coming together, pushing for a difference because we’re not asking them what needs to be done, we know what needs to be done and we will take the initiatives to make that change.”

Machel says he had no choice to be part of a movement that he believes will bring about the positive change that is need for youths in the Caribbean.

Machel Montano, Artist
“This is done as a movement and these kinds of movements or these kinds or organisations that preach non-violence and preach positive behaviour, positive life to youths, they exist, but you don’t ever really hear about them, you don’t ever hear about them as much as you would Fifty Cent coming to your country. You know, music is a big medium for young people, music is a way that is unique in which you can reach the wide diaspora over different languages. So we thought that we would use music, some of the most popular entertainers–in Trinidad and the Caribbean we are well known and you know, we want to work with a lot of people, start this example.”

The Xchange festival gets underway this Saturday at the parking lot behind the Bliss Centre. Jacqueline woods for News Five.

The Xchange Festival starts at nine in the morning and the fun concludes at six in the evening. Primary sponsor of the event is UNICEF.
