Christmas goodies for Kids at K.H.M.H….
Tis the season to bring joy…Christmas parties are taking place at many places to bring joy to persons who would otherwise not be able to enjoy the celebrations. Earlier today we stopped by the K.H.M.H. where children were being treated to Christmas goodies by the staff of Diamonds International. Isani Cayetano reports.

The cheerful spirit and altruism of Christmas was felt today inside the pediatric ward of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where a number of young patients were treated to gifts and entertainment. The initiative was the brainchild of the management and staff of Diamonds International. This morning, they all converged on the unit bearing gifts and caroling.

“Basically this year we thought we’d do something different. We started a toy drive, we had all our staff, all the members of our workplace make sure that we got some gifts. We made sure that we got our packages thanks to Roses, they helped us as well so we got some care packages where we have little stuff that the kids would need when they come in over here. Just basic necessities which they don’t have when they come to the hospital and we thought about Christmas, you know. Christmas is not just a time when we are opening our own gifts but about opening our hearts and we thought we’d just be like little Santa’s helpers here trying to give these little children gifts.”
According to human resources manager Darlene Graham, organizing employees to participate in the initiative was fairly easy. Everyone pitched in to secure a gift for each child.

“We do a lot of charity work, especially when it comes to kids, underprivileged kids, kids who are sick in the hospital. We just wanted to bring hope to them, we just want to let them know that the reason for the season is all about love, okay. So we came together as a team from Diamonds International and along with the staff and management we decided to buy them gifts. So that’s the reason why we are here and we come with great joy knowing that we can sing, we’re going to sing for them, okay. So we’ll have a fun time here with them and although they are here sick we still remember them at Christmas time.”
The idea was also a first for the K.H.M.H. They jumped at the opportunity to partner with the company to make Christmas equally as special for sick children.
“We called up over here, they said they really have never done something like this and we are really glad to see that we actually wanted to come here and do this with them. So I think they were working very well with us and everything just went good. As the saying goes that Christmas is not just about opening our presents but opening our hearts and the team at Diamonds International we all collected gifts from all our staff, all our managers brought in gifts for the kids. Grace Kennedy actually participated with us and they gave us some of the supplies for the care packages and we also have Ozzy, the Clown, that’s over here to make sure that he brings a little smile to the kids faces by making some balloons for them.”
