When Will B.S.C.F.A. Sign Revised Agreement?
Now that the contentious item has been cleared from the contract Carballo says a response, as well as a signature from B.S.C.F.A. is imminent. The next step, he says, would be to discuss and finalize a starting date for the sugar crop.
Belizario Carballo, Financial Controller, B.S.I.
“We expect to have an agreement as early as possible. Like I said, the only real issue [that was] outstanding up to Friday was this clause two point three which had that sentence which was offending to the B.S.C.F.A. which was a bit of a legal point which we were saying look we retain the right as a buyer to reject but we are prepared to exercise it in this way. There was a request for us to remove that sentence that gave us the right to reject and over the weekend we had considered it and in a continuing spirit of compromise and trying to move the process forward we have agreed to remove that sentence from that clause, essentially now leaving it as it was in the past in practice simply with the SCPC exercising the right to administer those procedures and secondly for those procedures to be developed and agreed by the B.S.C.F.A. and B.S.I. And so, having cleared that point we now feel that there should be an agreement.”

“How soon do you expect an answer?”
Belizario Carballo
“Well we expect an answer today and we’ll then have to engage in discussions about planning the start of crop.”
