Woman drowns in sea; did police cause her death?
Sometime after one this afternoon, Belize City police received a report about a woman’s body floating in the waters off the Belize City Port. The corpse was retrieved and identified as thirty-four year old Yvonne Tillett. Authorities are not certain what may have led to the woman’s death, believed to be by drowning, but say so far they do not suspect foul play. Police say they know Tillett had a mental condition and drug problem and in the past have had to remove her from places where she loitered. It is not certain how long the body may have been in the water, but eyewitness reports reaching News Five suggest that after the Boledo draw on Monday night Tillett was chased through Central Park by a number of uniformed police and was believed to have jumped into the water in the vicinity of the Southern Foreshore. The Police Press Officer says he has no knowledge of that information and is appealing to anyone who can assist in the investigation to contact the Queen Street police station.
