P.U.P. Chairman Says Cayo North Election Will be Close
Traditionally, by mid-December every year all attention is focused on things Christmas-related…and that lasts up to the day after New Year’s. That’s been pretty much the case this year, even though in just a week there’ll be a significant by-election in Cayo North. For the P.U.P., their candidate is the underdog, trying to pull off a victory with only one month on the ground. So, has Richard Harrison been able to generate any excitement and momentum in a generally slow Christmas month? P.U.P. Chairman Henry Charles Usher says that he has, and they’re preparing to wage war on January fifth.
Henry Charles Usher, Chairman, People’s United Party
“From our accounts, from my going out there, it’s going to be a very close election. That is our take on it. I’ve been campaigning with Richard – we have other party officials, other Standard Bearers and Area Reps that have been going out there, walking the ground with Richard, meeting the people with Richard, and the response has been good. The response has been very welcoming for our candidate. And I really believe that on Election Day it will come down to the machinery. Can we get our voters out there? Can we get our pledge voters out there early and work on our independent voters after that. I am confident that we can. This is a national party effort going into Cayo North to make sure that we hold on to that seat. As Chairman of the Party, I expect everyone to be out there. This is all boots on the ground. Everyone will be there. We need to make sure this is a national effort. I am making sure that on my end, from the Chairman’s end and from the Secretariat’s end, everything is put in place to make sure that Richard has the proper machinery. Ms. Palacio, the Secretary-General, has been meeting with his campaigners, has been training them on how to go out there, because we do have some new campaigners that Richard has brought in, but on the day we do expect to see the blue machine in full effect.”
