Women Empowering Women

Therese Wright

A group of women from Kentucky, U.S.A., has been in the Jewel since Monday…their mission – to empower women of all ages. The group, called Building the Sisterhood for Christ Mission, comprises a team of four women led by Belizean American, Therese Wright. They are here to share the gospel, encourage and inspire women and young girls through several workshops. The activities started today with a workshop and on Friday, a women conference is to be held. The workshops were held under the theme, “My Sister’s Keepers,” targeting girls between the ages of ten and seventeen. This afternoon, female laborers of Belize Maintenance Limited were counseled on “juggling faith and life” and on how to dispel the notion of “attention seekers.” Both Crystal Young and Wright say that as messengers, they too have experienced some of the hardships that women are suffering.

“Belize is my home country and we do this in the United States and this is something that god placed in my heart to bring to my own country for us to do. So we are here this week giving a message of hope, inspiration and encouragement and just exhorting women and letting them know that we’ve been there. We’ve been through stuff…you know we haven’t always looked this way, but God is faithful and he can do what he says he’s going to do. And so everything is going to be okay, but we want women to know that we are our sister’s keepers, we are women of virtue.”

“To be there to uplift one another, just a way to build a sisterhood for Christ. Today we also met with the ladies of the BML and we just brought our personal testimonies of what we have been through in our own lives just to encourage them that whatever that they are going through, that god can bring them through as well; that there is nothing too hard for him. On Friday, we are encouraging all the young women to come out—all ages—to come out to our revival that we are having at Nazarene at seven p.m. and we are just going to continue with the same word of hope and letting them know that they are important, that god loves them and that they are virtuous women and that they are strong in God.”
