Rider forced off bike by machete waving thief
Bike thefts seem to be on the rise, but one Belize City man abandoned his bike in fear when a robber approached him wielding a machete. Carl Parham told police he was riding his beach cruiser on West Canal around seven-thirty Monday morning when Steven Arnold began chasing him with a machete, making chopping motions. Parham took the threats seriously enough to abandon his bike and run down the street. He says when he looked back, Arnold was riding off on his bike. Parham identified Arnold, also known as “Cat” or “Sour” to police saying he has known him for ten years. Arnold appeared before Magistrate Margaret McKenzie today and was charged with robbery. He was remanded to prison pending trial.
