Man Arrested for Padgett Murder
Four days before Christmas popular San Ignacio resident Jermaine Padgett was shot and killed as he socialized with friends. It is not believed that he was the target, but was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and with the wrong persons. Police immediately launched an investigation and determined that the murder was the result of a ‘beef’ between two groups, and in short order they arrested and charged the man believed to have pulled the trigger. Today Deputy Commander of Cayo Inspector Reymundo Reyes gave News Five an update.
Insp. Reymundo Reyes, Deputy Commander, Cayo Police
“As a result of the investigation carried out by the San Ignacio police, we detained a male person and after recording statements and viewing some recordings that we had, we ended up arresting and charging Windel Trapp for the crime of murder on the twenty-fourth of December 2014.”
Mike Rudon
“Does his arrest fit in with the motive that police had believed was responsible; that there was an altercation?”
Insp. Reymundo Reyes
“It stemmed up based on that and resulted in him being pointed out during an identification parade as the person who was believed to be the person who pulled the trigger.”
Windel Trapp was formally arraigned on Tuesday for the crime of murder and remanded to the Belize Central Prison.
