Accused child molester beaten by 2 women
A Ladyville resident who had been badly beaten and stabbed found his way to the Ladyville police station on Wednesday morning to report the crime. What makes this story different, however, is that Godfrey Coote says he was attacked by two women. While their motive was not revealed when they appeared in Magistrate court today, it may or may not be a coincidence that Coote was to supposed to appear in court himself today on another matter, namely the molestation of an eight year old girl. The women, Merlene Clark and Elizabeth Tillett, appeared before Magistrate Emerson Banner and were arraigned on charges of attempted murder, dangerous harm, and two counts of deadly means of harm. They were told that while the court could not grant them bail, they could apply to the Supreme Court. Until then, they will be remanded to Hattieville Prison. Coote is currently hospitalised with stab wounds to the right side of his chest, abdomen, both hands, and under his right eye, injuries he claims were inflicted by the women, one of whom he says used a knife and the other a baseball bat. A bench warrant was issued for Coote this morning in connection with indecent assault on the minor, but it was cancelled after the court learned he was in the hospital.
