Belize offers to send troops to Louisiana
In some late news from Belmopan, the National Security Council, chaired by the Prime Minister, has decided to offer material assistance to those residents of Louisiana digging out from Hurricane Katrina. The government is offering to send a contingent of B.D.F. soldiers to assist in relief and recovery operations. It will be recalled that Belize has for a number of years enjoyed a close working relationship with the Louisiana National Guard, which has sent large detachments to Belize to work on both infrastructure and community service projects. It is by no means certain whether Louisiana authorities will accept the offer as right now it seems that they have their hands full organising their own response to the disaster.
