Omar Figueroa Appointed Minister of State
Fresh off a huge win in Monday’s Cayo North by-election, Doctor Omar Figueroa is set to join cabinet. Following a special sitting of Cabinet, the office of the Prime Minister today announced that Figueroa, who is a doctor in Environmental Sciences by profession, is being appointed minister of state in the PM’s office as early as Monday when he will be sworn in by the Governor General. There will now be two minister’s state in the office of the PM; Santiago Castillo Junior is other. The appointment will bring the number of ministers and junior ministers to as many as twenty. Figueroa won the by-elections by a large margin against the PUP’s Richard Harrison receiving two thousand six hundred and sixty four votes to Harrison’s one thousand three hundred and forty eight votes.
