Little news on how Belizeans fared in Katrina

Almost three days after Hurricane Katrina began its assault on the U.S. Gulf Coast, we have received no specific reports on how numerous Belizeans living in the affected areas have fared. Word has been received that Belize’s honorary consul in New Orleans, Jean Bernard, successfully evacuated to Houston and it is believed that most of the estimated four thousand Belizeans living in the greater New Orleans area did get out in time. If the pictures can be believed, many will have little or nothing to return to. And while there is little a resource poor country like Belize can do to help our stricken countrymen abroad, at the very least we can welcome those forced to return home with open arms and generous hearts. Any Belizeans able to communicate via email who would like to share their experience with viewers are asked to contact us at gbtv@btl.net or visit our website at channel5belize.com.
