Accused robber pleads not guilty
A man who has managed to evade conviction for a number of crimes, including three charges of attempted murder, was in court again today, this time facing robbery charges. Twenty-five year old Alex Myers of Baghdad Street appeared before Magistrate Richard Swift where he pleaded not guilty to the charge. Lyndon Garbutt reported to police that he was riding his bike to a pawnshop on Wednesday when three Creole men, approached him. He recognised Myers immediately and says Myers referred to another man as “Killa,” telling him to search Garbutt. ?Killa? then hit him in the face and went through his pockets until he found the one hundred and fifty dollars Garbutt was going to use to pay the pawnbroker. In his own defence, Myers told the court that Garbutt had hired him to do some construction work, but never paid him. However, during the course of the arraignment, it was discovered that Myers also owed money, this time to the court for a previous conviction for marijuana possession. He was remanded to Hattieville until September twenty-ninth.
