Escaped Prisoner Shot by Police
Dangerous prisoner turn escapee Emmanuel Willoughby is a fugitive no longer. He is currently under Police guard at the K.H.M.H. after he was shot twice during his apprehension by Police on Tuesday. Willoughby escaped from the Belize Central Prison in December by sawing through his cell door, and since then has allegedly been on a crime rampage in Cayo. He managed to elude Cayo Police but wasn’t so lucky in the city. Today Officer Commanding the Crimes Investigation Branch Superintendent Hilberto Romero gave us an update on the capture of Willoughby.

“Emmanuel Willoughby who escaped from the Kolbe Foundation. Police again launched an operation in the Arlington Drive area where he was found and as a result he was apprehended and he was shot to the leg and the arm. He is wanted in Cayo for a robbery and an aggravated robbery. So as soon as he recovers, he will be taken to Cayo where the investigation there will decide whether he will be charged there in Cayo.”

“The information was that he was hiding out there?”

“Yes he was hiding in Cayo and we received information that he came to Belize City yesterday.”
Reporter
“The injuries he sustained, I presume, were while police were trying to bring him in?”
Supt. Hilberto Romero
“Yes, he again had resisted and refused to surrender. As a result, they saw some black object and as a result he was shot. The information is that he was hiding at an abandoned house in that area. The police did an operation in that area.”
