Prison instructor arrested for robbery and shootout
Three men have been charged for a robbery in Bermudian Landing and a subsequent shootout with police. Surprisingly, one of them, Ernie Miranda, is a teacher and instructor at the Hattieville Correctional Facility. Miranda, Frank Elijio, and Erleon Garbutt appeared before Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord today where they pleaded not guilty to robbery, aggravated assault, and conspiracy to commit robbery. Businessman He Yong Guang of Bermudian Landing told police that three men entered his shop armed with handguns while another waited outside. One of the men pointed a gun at him, and the other hit him in the face with his gun, then similarly hit his wife and son. They then tried to carry his safe out of the shop, but were unable to do so, getting away with only eight hundred dollars in cash. But as the culprits fled in their vehicle, they were intercepted by police who say the robbers shot at them and they in turn fired back. The men then abandoned their vehicle and fled into the bushes where they were later rounded up and taken into custody. All three are to reappear in court on September twenty-second.
