Mendez Will Likely Be Charged on Monday

Today, Bradley was also in Orange Walk to try to get information with which to make the best possible arrangements for his client. By that we mean bail. While the allegations speak to inappropriate contact, that covers a wide spectrum. Certain charges within that spectrum carry bail at the Magistrate’s Court level, and others, like carnal knowledge, do not. This evening, Bradley told News Five that the fact that Police are waiting so long to lay specific charges in what should be a straightforward matter, is very strange.

“What is a little unclear is that the charges for which it appears he will be given charge sheets are bailable offences. The system is sweating Dr. Mendez because they are putting out little drops here and there that there may be more serious charges which would then put pressure on the Magistrate’s Court as to whether bail would be offered and in what sums. If Dr. Mendez is falsely and wrongly charged for having sexual intercourse with any of the children, the Magistrate’s Court cannot grant bail. And we would be taken aback if such charges are laid, because we are taking the indication, knowing that there is political interference in what is happening, that is a very simple matter. If a minor is making an allegation that another minor or an adult has had sexual intercourse, it’s a question of conducting a medical exam and bringing charges. It’s not like you’re all over the country looking for a fugitive. This is an elementary matter in terms of bringing charges, and it is strange to me that a week has gone where the children were interviewed and statements were taken and they can’t give an indication as to what is happening. They would have already bum-rushed Dr. Mendez and charged him for the gravest of offences in this matter.”

It is expected, thought not a certainty, that Mendez will be escorted to the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court on Monday to be charged.
