No Charges for Doctor Mendez
Doctor Marco Tulio Mendez, pediatrician and politician, has not been charged by Orange Walk Police. We do know at this time that based on allegations against him, made to the Human Development office, Police have conducted an investigation. And as a result of that investigation, charge sheets are being prepared. It’s not known at this time exactly what those charges will be, only that they are based on assertions that he had inappropriate contact with two minors. Courtesy of a rumour mill that has spun endlessly and out of control this past week, it was reported that Mendez would be taken into custody today. That wasn’t the case. In the interest of the minors, we have also not provided details of the allegations and have kept to the bare facts. But today, we did get the opportunity to speak to Mendez’s attorney Dickie Bradley in Orange Walk.
Dickie Bradley, Attorney of Marco Tulio Mendez
“My understanding is that Dr. Mendez will be charged. He will be charged for more than one offence. And we of course have to wait to see the nature of the charge sheets because there are other implications in terms of bail, quantum of bail in regards to those matters, so there will be charges brought against Dr. Mendez. You saw me coming out of the office where the Clerk and the officers would have the information as to whether any charges have been laid. Charges have not been laid. The Police have been courteous enough to inform me that in fact charges will be laid. It’s already Friday evening. It would be unfair for me to tell my client let us go and await the laying of the charges because then I will be jeopardizing his freedom. The Police might decide just to take instruction to hold him over the weekend. You know there is some level of political involvement in a matter of this nature.”
