Robbers greeted by victim’s gunfire
Two Belize City thieves definitely got more than they bargained for during a late night robbery attempt at a home off the Northern Highway. According to fifty-six year old Charles McKintosh, around eleven last night he and his nephew arrived at their shrimp farm on Marage Road in Ladyville, but as they were locking up their truck, two men, one armed with a sawed off shotgun, appeared out of the darkness and demanded money. But in a move that would make Clint Eastwood proud, McKintosh pulled out his licensed handgun and started pulling the trigger. When he finally stopped, one of the would-be thieves was on the ground writhing in pain from gunshot wounds to his chest and shoulder. That man has since been identified as twenty-one year old Darron Waight of Port Loyola in Belize City. A search of the area turned up the shotgun, and a black stocking mask, but not Waight’s accomplice. Intense police investigations have implicated the duo in another robbery which occurred on board a boat moored in the Vista del Mar area. According to twenty-six year old Dasilis Garcia, while inside the cabin, she was attacked and then tied up by two men who stole her cell phone, jewellery and other valuables. Apparently, the men had planned to steal the boat, but when they couldn’t get it started, decided to walk to the location of their next victim. Police now speculate that the target was McKintosh. As for the second suspect, he is still on the run but police say they expect to make an arrest shortly.
