Burglar escapes P.G. jail; winds up dead
There is troubling news out of the Toledo District tonight and it involves the murder of a long sought criminal. Viewers may recall that a week ago police announced the arrest of twenty-two year old Colin Mangar. Charged with five counts of burglary and handling stolen property, Mangar was also suspected in a number of other break-ins. What the police did not tell the media, however, was that shortly after being returned to his holding cell at the Punta Gorda station, Mangar escaped. Sources tell News Five that negligence or perhaps even complicity was involved and the police commissioner has ordered an inquiry. But for Mangar, the matter is moot because at some point after leaving his cell, he became a victim of murder. His partially decomposed body was discovered yesterday afternoon near Elridge Village. The official version is that he was killed by one of his partners in crime, and that man is now in detention. A more cynical spin lays his death at the door of rogue cops. Police, as they say, are investigating.
