GSU’s Drugs and Firearm Seizures in Belize City

The Gang Suppression Unit has been on various operations in the city over the past three days. The unit is reporting the seizure of a substantive amount of cannabis and a firearm from various hotspots within the city. On Tuesday, in the Nurse Findley Crescent area, a search in an empty lot led to the discovery of a black plastic bag containing a total three point zero-three pounds of cannabis. No one was in the area at the time of the discovery and the weed was labeled as found property. On Thursday, however, in another open lot situated at the corner of Oleander and Evergreen Streets in the Saint Martin’s area, a point twenty-two Taurus brand revolver with serial number K-one-seven-nine-three-two-five was discovered. It was wrapped in a black plastic bag and stashed away in a garbage bin. Further searches in the bag also led to the discovery of just three-quarter pound of hydro-type cannabis and six grams of crack cocaine. While no one was in the area, the firearm and the drugs are believed to be for members of the Peace In the Village (PIV) gang who, the GSU says, controls the sale of narcotics in ninety percent of the Saint Martin the Porres Area. Later that night, the unit also conducted operations in the Jane Usher Boulevard area. Inside an empty lot on Curl Thompson Street, a black plastic bag with almost a pound of cannabis was found in a Olmeca container. The empty lot is located behind the residence of a well-known gang member of the Jane Usher gang, who the GSU says, is known to peddle drugs in the immediate area.
