Shoplifter busted by store employees
It’s an annoying reality that most big businesses must deal with on a daily basis: shoplifting. But this morning alert eyes and quick police response have landed one habitual offender behind bars. According to Rosendo Urbina, owner of A&R on the Northern Highway, just after nine this morning, a man, who on several prior occasions has grabbed items off the shelves and then left without paying for them, entered the store. Employees then watched as he picked up four packs of pens, valued at three dollars and seventy cents each, before running out of the store. But A&R’s security plan was already in action and within seconds the suspect was surrounded by ten male employees. When the police arrived a short time later, the thief was immediately taken into custody. Urbina told News Five he hopes today’s incident sends a message to other shoplifters hoping to score a five-finger discount.

“We are watching and we have a lot of people right here. We have about twenty-three people employed right here, so it’s very difficult for them to just get away with things like that. It’s true that once they come out we cannot chase them, but if you have twenty-three people, you have forty-six eyes, so it’s a lot of eyes that are watching. And it doesn’t mean they don’t get away, but what we are trying to tell them is that it’s very difficult for them to get away, we will see them and catch them, and as soon as we catch them we will call the police.”
The vehicle the thief used to drive to A&R has been impounded by the police as part of their investigation.
