Man charged with rape of former spouse

Tonight Belize City police are investigating a rape report made by a woman against her ex-common-law husband. According to the forty year old victim, she arrived at her home around midnight, but as she was attempting to park, her ex, Hilberto Perez, appeared and got into the front passenger seat. The woman has told authorities that Perez invited her to their old house at mile two and a half on the Western Highway. She says that when she hesitated, he began to beat her up, so she made the decision to do as he asked. She asserts that upon arriving at the house, she was dragged to a bedroom and raped. Following the assault, the victim was then forced to drive her assailant back to her house to recover his vehicle. As a result of police investigations, the forty-nine year old Perez has been arrested and charged with rape.
