Alleged Drug Peddler Shot in San Pedro

Kareem Eagan

There was another shooting on Monday night. It happened in San Pedro where a well-known alleged drug peddler, was shot to the foot. Kareem Eagan is no stranger to the police on the island, in fact, less than a month ago he was the intended target of another shooting at his apartment. San Pedro Police tells us more about this latest incident.

Via Phone: Supt. Luis Castellanos, O.C., Coastal Executive Unit

“Last night about eight-thirty p.m., we received information about a shooting incident in the San Pedrito area of San Pedro Town. As a result of the information we received, Police visited the area where they met a gentleman by the name of Kareem Eagan, thirty two years Belizean Maintenance Worker of the San Pedrito Area, who was seen suffering from injuries to his right foot which is just above his ankle; it appeared to be a gunshot injury. Initial investigation revealed that two Hispanic male persons dressed in dark clothing with hooded jackets ran into the yard of the apartments and fired several shots which caught the victim. He was seated inside his room when he felt the burning sensation on his right foot. Also at the scene we saw a Rav4 SUV with license plate SCC-six-four-seven belonging to Mister Hilberto Lopez, thirty four years Belizean accountant of the DFC Area. It was also parked in front of the apartment and had some damage as a result of the bullet shots. The complainant was taken for medical treatment and was released that same night.”

“Has anyone been detained or questioned in connection with this incident?”

“We have two persons detained; two minors. The scene was processed where we recovered seven expended 9mm shells; however, the virtual complainant, Mr Kareem Eagan is not cooperating with the police. He has refused to give a statement and so he isn’t cooperating with the investigation.”

Andrea Polanco

“Okay. I know that in the middle of January around the fourteenth or the fifteenth there was another shooting incident involving the same person, Kareem Eagan. The police been able to ascertain if these incidents are related?”

Via Phone: Supt. Luis Castellanos

“We are not certain if it is related, but it would appear to us that it is drug related.”

Andrea Polanco

“Kareem Eagan, from what the police know of him- is he affiliated with any gangs or as such?”

Via Phone: Supt. Luis Castellanos

“We do not know if he is affiliated with any gangs, but we know him to be a drug peddler in the area here.”

Andrea Polanco

“Okay, so he is well known to the police?”

Via Phone: Supt. Luis Castellanos

“Yes, he is well known. As you mentioned on January 14th, 2015, persons went to the same location where he was shot last night and fired about nine gunshots into his apartment room.”

Andrea Polanco

“Okay so from the first incident and the one that happened last night, you do believe that he was the intended target of both shootings?”

Via Phone: Supt. Luis Castellanos

“Yes, we believe that he is the intended target.”

Andrea Polanco

“So, since the first incident was anyone detained for that?”

Via Phone: Supt. Luis Castellanos

“For the first incident nobody was detained.”

Andrea Polanco

“Is there anything that would lead police to believe that it’s the same two minors who were involved?”

Via Phone: Supt. Luis Castellanos

“We are not too certain because the investigation is still in its initial stage, so we just have them detained and we are questioning them at the moment.”
