Accused walks as police witness fails to show
Prosecutors were not so lucky in the case of Darren Banks, who today walked away from a prohibited firearm charge when a police witness failed to show up in court. Banks was accused of carrying a three-five-seven magnum handgun, one of a number of prohibited weapons that rate a mandatory three-year prison sentence. But when force armourer, Albert Ciego, could not be located to identify the gun in question, Magistrate Margaret McKenzie, who had set today for the final hearing, ruled that the case against Banks was dismissed. The twenty-six year old resident of Oleander Street walked out of the courtroom a free man.
