Santos Oliva Remanded for Sexual Assault Upon Minor
Forty-six year old Santos Oliva, a stevedore of Freedom Street in Belize City was before the court this morning to answer to one count of Sexual Assault upon a Minor and one Count of Grievous Harm upon the Minor. The underage girl is accusing him of touching her inappropriately and causing her grievous harm. The girl was above the age of fourteen when the incident allegedly occurred on November seventeenth 2014. Oliva pleaded not guilty to both charges and the prosecutor, Inspector Hector Rodriguez, objected to bail on the grounds that the suspect owed the court. From the facts of the case, Oliva knows the victim so the police are fearful that he may try to interfere with her. Records showed that Oliva owes the court for an aggravated assault offense since 2008 and for two drug related charges that go back to 2001 and 2008. In respect of a pending three thousand dollar fine, Oliva said it is not him, but it could be that his son owes the court. But a check showed that it was Oliva because of his date of birth which is March twelfth, 1968. Oliva was ordered to pay all old fines before bail request can be entertained and with that he was remanded to the Belize Central prison until April fifteenth, 2015.
