Fresh faces to join the senate
New faces are expected to join the Senate. The first has been named as Omar Figueroa, an environmentalist from Cayo who will replace the UDP appointed Deborah Mencias-McMillan. The outgoing senator has announced that she will be moving on to take up an appointment as Associate Director of the Intensive English Institute at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. There are also reports that the opposition People’s United Party will be making fresh appointments to the Senate to replace three that have completed a first term. The appointment of a thirteenth senator, who is to represent the NGO’s, is still pending because a constitutional amendment to enlarge the senate is still tied up in litigation.
