Teacher Suspended for Alleged Sexual Misconduct

And since we were on the subject of inappropriate sexual conduct in schools, we did some digging into another scandal, this one at the Mopan Technical School. A male teacher is accused of sending nude pictures to at least one, and likely more students at the school. We got an update on that alarming situation from Education Officer, Luis Carballo.

“At this time, the teacher has been put on administrative leave also, and the investigation is being carried out. I think pictures are being downloaded from the internet, from Facebook. The Principal and Vice-Principal knew about the issue because students were talking about it in school, so at this time they are carrying out their investigation to see where that leads. If it is true that the pictures were being sent to students, then the teacher can be charged with actions unbecoming a teacher.”

If the investigation does result in evidence against the teacher, the Ministry will then call in the Police. There is also an allegation that the teacher in question was posted at another school in the west where a similar incident occurred and was then transferred to the Mopan Technical School.
