Ernest Raymond Jr. freed of second set of charges

Story PictureIn early January, police nabbed Ernest Raymond Jr., as he headed home in a vehicle believed to be owned by a member of the Coye Family, the former operators of MoneyGram, who that at the time had been arrested for money laundering. Police found a nine millimeter Luger brand pistol in the car’s glove compartment. He was charged with Keeping an Unlicensed Firearm and remanded in prison. But Raymond, as it turned out, had a license for a nine millimeter Smith and Wesson pistol. At the time of the incident, Raymond Jr., was also facing money laundering charges linked to the Coye money laundering case but these charges have since been dropped.

Today, however, Raymond was a relieved man when the case was dismissed by Magistrate Edd P. Usher who upheld a no case submission made by attorney’s Dickie Bradley and Arthur Saldivar. Usher told Raymond that he was free to go. He also ordered the return of monies and a car that were confiscated when he was arrested. Raymond told News Five what transpired in Court.

Ernest Raymond Junior, Acquitted of Charges
“My attorney, he made a no case submission and based on that Magistrate Usher made a decision and that decision was in my favour and as a result, the case was dismissed. I was just charged along with the other people charged for money laundering. Of course you know those charges were dropped as well.”

Duane Moody
“What about the seventy-five hundred dollars noh?”

Ernest Raymond Jr.
“That was monies found in the car that should be returned.”

Duane Moody
“And authorization was given for that money to be returned to you?”

Ernest Raymond Jr.
“Certainly.”

The case fell apart over an error in the recording of the serial number of the firearm. In testimony one of the witnesses, Sergeant Hilberto Romero said that the serial number was 82842 and not A2842 as was previously recorded in the charge sheet. Another witness, Special Constable, Wayne Samuel, said that the gun in question was his and that he and Raymond Jr., had exchanged guns but the paper work was in process in Belmopan.
