Bar owner wounded in robbery attempt

A Belize City businessman was shot in the shoulder on Monday night when two men unsuccessfully tried to steal his gun. George Ming told police he was outside his club “Player’s Den” on Barrack Road around ten p.m. when a man he thought was a beggar asked him for two dollars. While he was being distracted, an accomplice came up from behind and tried to dislodge the gun from his waistband. Ming pushed the man away before he could steal the firearm, but as he was running back inside the building, he heard a shot and realized he had been hit in the shoulder by a bullet. Ming was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he remains in stable condition. Police are looking for two suspects.
