Art camp held in memory of Eder Alamilla
The Institute of Creative Arts has another activity on at the Bliss for the next two weeks: an art camp for children and teens. The programme is a collaboration between ICA and the family of a young Belizean artist who died earlier this year, Eder Alamilla.
Tania Alamilla Mahler, Art Class Instructor
?I am doing this project in memory of my brother Eder Martin Alamilla that passed away March twelfth. He was into art, so I am trying to do this in memory of him.?
?We are doing several things. We?re doing name tags for example for today… Like for example we will be making frames which the kids will be making out of sticks. Just different little ideas for the kids to use their hands, because a lot of them are not that coordinated, so I?m trying to let them learn how to coordinate. This is a little jewellery box that they will be making. Just little different things from recycling stuff, lot of stones, lot of paper. We?re going to try to make piñatas; we?ll see how it goes with the kids.?
?The Taiwanese Embassy, I invited them. Miss Betty, I spoke to Miss Betty is she is gonna give me two days, which she is going to teach them arts and crafts, macramé, and paper stuff, like do family portraits.?
?I haven?t been through the papers to see what schools they are coming from, but right now the ages are from five to ten that are here right now.?
Karla Heusner
?Do you still have spaces??
Tania Alamilla Mahler
?Yes we do! We have lots of spaces for more kids.?
If your child would like to participate in the art classes, the morning sessions run from nine to noon, while those in the afternoon, reserved for young people eleven to fifteen, are on from one to four p.m. The Eder Alamilla Memorial Art Class costs nine dollars for the two-week session. An exhibition of Alamilla’s work opens August fifth at the House of Culture in Belize City.
