Y.W.C.A. summer programme a big success

Story PictureThe first leg of the Young Women’s Christian Association summer programme came to an official close this morning when a couple hundred of its participants received certificates after successfully completing various courses. According to Y.W.C.A.’s Executive Director, Sonia Linares, the response was so overwhelming that in just a short time all spaces were quickly filled. Those children who were turned away were given the opportunity to attend the second session, which gets underway on Monday.

Sonia Linares, Executive Dir., Y.W.C.A.
?We had over two hundred children from various parts of Belize City, even the district towns came in, especially for the swim programme. So we had quite an amount to deal with.?

?Come Monday we will start the second part of the swim programme. We will do reading. Children who want special help in reading, they can come and we will be able to assist them. We will also be having preschool, and the following week, we?ll start a sign language course.

Linares encourages parents who wish to sign their children up for next week’s programme to register early because there are only a few spaces left, especially in the eight-thirty swim class. The ten-thirty session is already filled. Linares says she is grateful to all the volunteers and businesses that assisted in making the Y summer programme a success.
